The Importance of Pet Dermatology Services

Many pet owners don't realize that pets are just as prone to skin problems as we are, but the good news is that our highly effective pet dermatology services are here to help your pet if he or she has any kind of skin issue. Although your pet's skin is likely protected by fur, pets can still develop a number of skin conditions and can even suffer from skin allergies.

Here in our office, our veterinarians and our team have the experience and resources to test, diagnose, and treat any number of skin conditions or allergies.

Signs of Potential Pet Skin Problems Explained by Our Veterinarians

There are a number of red flags to be on the lookout for that could indicate your pet is suffering from a skin condition. For starters, if you notice your pet seems to be grooming excessively in a certain area of the body (such as the paws or tail), this could indicate some kind of skin irritation. Sometimes, the grooming could become so excessive due to irritation that your pet may exhibit "bald spots" or hot spots. When this occurs, there are a number of possible skin conditions that we will need to consider as we work to determine the diagnosis. However, some potential problems include skin allergies and skin dryness.

Another sign to watch out for is that of excessive shedding, which could indicate a skin problem (but is not always the case). For pets that have double coats (as many dog breeds do), increased shedding may be noticed during the months of spring and this is usually normal shedding of the undercoat. Ultimately, however, you know your pet best and should use your best judgment when it comes to determining whether something is uncharacteristic of your pet or not.
